Fontainebleau Palace

Fontainebleau, France

The Palace of Fontainebleau is one of the largest French castles and has hosted many monarchs and generals, from Louis IV to Napoleon I. A true work of art in itself, the medieval palace is an example of the French Renaissance architectural style.

Located just outside Paris, the castle has been listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, attracting thousands of visitors every year. Among the palace exhibits is a collection of rare porcelain artifacts, such as Chinese vases and other homeware items.

In this project, MUEVO undertook the creation of a large “L” shaped display case to present a stunning collection of porcelain tableware.

The building’s listing posed a certain level of difficulty, seeing as the wall and ground could not be utilized to anchor the large showcase and rigidly support the opening of its 3x3m glass doors.

To address this technical issue, MUEVO worked on devising an appropriate solution with minimum visual impact from the early stages of engineering. The result was the development of a fully concealed wheel system that provides thorough support to the glass structure.

MUEVO’s special showcase now seems to be standing freely in the Room of the Swan’s Neck at the Palace of Fontainebleau, where visitors can admire the porcelain artefacts straight through the nearly invisible glass.
