Display Cases
MUEVO specialises in the development of custom museum display cases based on globally accepted quality standards. Given that all artefacts are unique, we treat every project as a special one, offering tailored display solutions as appropriate.
Given this approach, our adaptive engineering methodology and growing production capabilities, we can design and build any type of showcase, with maximum flexibility over the museography and architectural intent.
Our ultimate goal is to bring the scenographer’s vision to life while safeguarding your collections, always ensuring that our products remain simple and intuitive to use.
We thus devise solutions that are equally respectful towards the museography, the artefacts and end-users. In that way,we serve the threefold purpose of museum display cases:
PRESERVE
+
+
A museum showcase is destined to host of a piece of history and strict requirements for conservation are to be followed in order to safeguard your collections for years and generations to come. We thus pay particular attention to all the elements that make up the internal micro-environment of a showcase. Every display case interior provides a unique climate, protecting the exhibits from harmful VOCs, while offering apropos lighting conditions, ventilation and humidity control mechanisms, all depending on the nature of the artefact(s) it houses.
PRESENT
+
+
Display cases play a crucial role in expressing the tone set by the scenography of an exhibition. As museum case manufacturers, we aim for our casework to be unobtrusive, with no visible mechanisms, so that viewers can fully enjoy the artefacts without distractions. To optimize the viewing experience, we only work with top-grade anti-reflective glass for maximal transparency. For an enhanced exhibition narrative, our vitrines can integrate different interpretive features, like graphic panels and dynamic multimedia projections, all in perfect harmony with the artefacts on display.
PROTECT
+
+
Display cases serve as the ultimate defense line against the risk of theft, vandalism and any other external force that may endanger your collections. Security levels are defined by the structural and material properties of the case, as well as the mechanical systems protecting its exhibition zone. In order to deter unauthorized access attempts, we implement the most advanced security systems and custom museum-grade locks to all our showcases, while ensuring that they are engineered to withstand traffic, vibrations, and earthquakes.
Total Fit Out
Our expanded portfolio includes total fit out services for museums, galleries, and other exhibition venues. From spatial layout, exhibit components and furniture design, to lighting, graphics, and integrated display elements, we manage every step of the process, ensuring a seamless outcome that truly reflects your concept and narrative.
Special Projects
We further undertake projects that demand for meticulous engineering and craftsmanship skills. Whether renovating historic cases to meet modern conservation standards or devising one-off solutions, we approach every project with precision, ensuring that we meet the highest requirements of quality and functionality.
Design Assist
This collaborative methodology relies on our early-stage involvement in the design process. Leveraging our knowledge on constructability, material properties, building expenses and scheduling, we contribute to the optimization of a project’s overall realization time and cost, while remaining faithful to your vision.
This approach is particularly beneficial for new buildings, as well as for complex projects that demand for seamless systems integration. With Design Assist, our technical team will be on your side from time zero to translate your idea and project’s demands into feasible display solutions. As a result, your concept will undergo minimal aesthetic alterations, while benefitting from efficient engineering propositions that reduce risks, costs and time-plans.
From building interventions and floor loading issues to electrical engineering and the integration of A/V equipment, Design Assist allows us to build a co-operative working model with scenographers and architects alike. Under this scheme, our involvement in a project starts from the design stage (RIBA phase 2), extends to construction drawings, and leads up to the phases of production and installation (RIBA stages 4&5) provided that we are awarded the project.
Exhibit Conservation
Museums are marked by the paradoxical mission of safeguarding their collections from the passage of time while also making them accessible to the public. Balancing presentation and preservation needs is precisely where conservation-grade showcases play their most vital role as mediums of preventive maintenance.
Based on our experience, we are able to understand to a large extent the conservation requirements of different artefacts and to translate them into construction solutions on a case-by-case basis. As preventive conservation plays a decisive role for us however, we also collaborate with a specialized team of conservation experts who define the preservation guidelines of your display cases.
By delving into the specific needs of each collection — from antiquities to artworks and natural history specimens — we adopt targeted measures that mitigate the natural deterioration of artefacts. This way, every showcase produced at MUEVO is designed and crafted with the particular demands of each art object in mind. Through this collaborative, conservation-focused approach, we extend the lifespan of the treasures entrusted to us, while ensuring they are wholeheartedly appreciated and admired.
Exhibit Mounting
Mountmaking is the craft of fabricating and installing any structures —from invisible mounts and discreet brackets, to custom armatures and frames— that securely support artefacts while on display or in storage. Beyond stabilizing the objects safely in place, mounts also provide passive protection against external forces such as vibrations, tremors, and earthquakes.
Equally important is the careful choice of conservation-approved materials, ensuring that mounts remain safe for long-term contact with delicate surfaces. Our approach is always twofold: delivering maximum protection while keeping visual impact to a minimum, so that the focus stays on the artefact itself.
Our team benefits from an in-house mounting expert who can work together with your conservation consultants to develop solutions suited to the needs of each collection. Whenever additional expertise is required, we also collaborate with our trusted network of external mounting specialists, ensuring every project meets the highest standards of safety and presentation.
Exhibition Lighting
Lighting plays a crucial role both in artefact presentation and preservation. It can set the tone of an exhibition, shape the way audiences perceive collections and enhance the overall visitor experience. Exhibition lighting can be fully integrated in the showcases, rely on external sources within the gallery, or combine both options.
For conservation purposes, we take it as a standard to work with fiber optics and LED solutions from specialist exhibition lighting providers, always separating the technical zone of a showcase from the display area with thermal insulation. Note that we exclusively use UV protective glass, to prevent any damage from natural daylight that may enter the exhibition space.
When it comes to aesthetics, we carefully consider the exact positioning, intensity, and direction of light in our cases, with the aid of diffusers, baffles and anti-glare grids. This way, we ensure that all artefacts are safeguarded respectfully, while being illuminated with clarity, dignity and elegance.
