What is the future of museums in rapidly changing communities?

Michalis Doukas, President & CEO of MUEVO, shared his views on this year’s theme of International Museum Day in an exclusive interview for the Sunday edition of Greek newspaper “To Vima”.

 “…The key lies in finding the right balance — one that harmoniously blends all the different influences and elements that form the overall museum experience for visitors. Today’s museographic studies must therefore align with the means via which people receive and process information, taking into account the constant social changes transforming the world around us.
 

Museums are flexible and adaptable institutions that have always been in a constant state of evolution, whilst also serving as instruments of civic engagement and education. Regardless of the technological advances, I
believe that every museum — today and especially in the future — must remain open and accessible to all, with a firm belief in the power of culture as a driving vehicle for social cohesion and well-being.

 

Perhaps, though, the museum of the future isn’t something we can define by giving the right answers today — but rather by asking the right questions about tomorrow.”
