In the heart of Liege lies the Grand Curtius, a museum complex housing important collections of artworks. The building, an early 17th century structure, was property of Jean de Corte, also known as Curtius, a wealthy arms and gunpowder dealer of the time.
Jean de Corte’s Arms Museum is one of the oldest museums in Liege. It houses a vast collection of weaponry that reflects the technological evolution of weaponry over four centuries.
During the museum’s renovation, MUEVO was selected to construct custom display cases for its new permanent exhibition of the weapons collection, which is developed on three levels.
The first level, for example, which was completed in 2018, only features weapons that were used in hunting and defence.
The challenge for MUEVO’s team in this project was the relationship between weight and endurance. The condition of the museum’s building did not permit the installation of heavy structures or standard system display cases.
To address this issue, our engineers developed special lightweight constructions, specifically designed to appropriately present the museum’s collections.
